Brooke at age 14 - Amber in dress uniform

Team AMBER-BROOKE may sound like a micro-brew, but such is not the case. AMBER-BROOKE is named in honor of two brave young ladies that suffer on a daily basis.

AMBER, who also lives here on the plateau, is a 24 year old woman who recently received a medical discharge from the United States Marine Corps due to the seriousness of her situation - she was diagnosed with lupus. Lupus arthritis is an illness that tends to attack women much more than men. It typically affects women between the ages of 15 and 45. AMBER has not been able to find a medication that can help her situation - at this time, she suffers on a daily basis. As Amber's mom said, "Today, our kick-ass Marine has a difficult time getting out of a chair."

BROOKE is my granddaughter who was diagnosed with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (JRA) at age 4. From age 4 through 10 BROOKE dealt with this horrible disease as the doctor's tried to find some medication that would help, never knowing what tomorrow would bring, except perhaps more pain. Then JRA attacked her eyes. Brooklynn lost one of her eyes, but she never gave up. Now at age 14, BROOKE has not had a serious flare up for four years due to the strong medications and biologics she is taking.

Lupus and JRA are both autoimmune diseases that raise havoc with a person. There is no cure for either disease, but that doesn't mean we stop trying!

Team AMBER-BROOKE is raising funds for research and raising awareness of these horrible diseases. We will be doing this during training rides, fundraisers, and while we bicycle the beautiful Oregon coast in September 2014. You can, of course, also make a donation on a team member's page.

Consider joining our team and helping with this worthwhile cause.

Thank you from everyone who suffers from arthritis.
